Let yourself feel!

By

I am so excited this morning as I write to you!  Last night, as I was writing my “Redeemed” Bible study, I was so amazed at where God led me in the book of Ruth.  As I studied, I found new truths in His Word and I am so excited to share them in this study which begins Oct 3rd!  I don’t want to spoil the study, but I just had to share a little bit of it with you this morning.  Look at what the first book of Ruth tells us about Naomi:

Now Elimelek, Naomi’s husband, died, and she was left with her two sons. They married Moabite women, one named Orpah and the other Ruth. After they had lived there about ten years, both Mahlon and Kilion also died, and Naomi was left without her two sons and her husband……..No, my daughters. It is more bitter for me than for you, because the Lord’s hand has turned against me!…..Don’t call me Naomi, she told them. Call me Mara, because the Almighty has made my life very bitter. I went away full, but the Lord has brought me back empty. Why call me Naomi?  The Lord has afflicted me; the Almighty has brought misfortune upon me.

Naomi was broken.  She had experienced extreme loss in her life and she felt it!   In Chapter 1, we read how hurt she felt.  She was very bitter, sad, and she felt as if God had afflicted her.  She had experienced great loss in her life and she was honest with how she felt!

Our world tells us we should avoid feeling sad or angry or upset, but we were created to FEEL!  We are emotional people and we FEEL things!  As a Christian, I have had times in my life where I didn’t let myself “feel” because I thought it meant I was not trusting God.  I wanted to have an even keel emotional life because I thought by feeling certain emotions I was not being the type of Christian I should be.  The truth is—this is not how we were created.  We were made to feel things!  Now, we need to be cautious about how we express our feelings.  We never want to sin or become a stumbling block for others as we express our feelings.  But we need to realize that it’s ok to cry, it’s ok to feel angry, it’s ok to feel sadness.  It is through our feelings that we recognize how human we are and how much we need a Savior.  It’s through our feelings that we fall down on our faces to surrender everything to God.  Feelings are blessings because they can bring us closer to God.  So, don’t be ashamed to feel!  Allow your feelings of insecurity, fear, sadness, anger, and bitterness to bring you to your knees in closer relationship with Him.  Thanks for reading today!
