Joy in the Journey

By

I recently celebrated my 20th year out of High School.  It seems unbelievable that it has been that long ago, because I still feel like that same young girl walking the halls of my High School.  A lot has changed in my life since then, but I don’t feel any older on the inside.  Maybe you can relate.  When we look back on our lives, isn’t it interesting how things turned out?  I mean, I am not at all doing what I thought I would be doing with my life.  I thought I may end up playing the piano professionally, or maybe owning my own drug store in my hometown.  I never saw myself as a pharmacy professor and certainly not someone who was on the radio.  The funny thing is, in High School,  I was the one who was never going to be a teacher and now one of my deepest passions in life is teaching God’s Word.  God has taken me down paths I could never have imagined and sometimes I shake my head in wonder of where He has taken me.

Our life is a journey.  We have destinations along our journey and for me, a lot of my life has been spent focused on the next destination.   Throughout my life, I wanted to “hurry up” and get to the next stage of my life, thinking that next stage of my life would bring me greater happiness.  Looking back, I realize that by racing from destination to destination I was missing some of the joy in the journey.  Maybe you can relate.  Maybe you have had times where you focused your energy on waiting for that next destination—the next big thing that may finally bring you the life you are hoping for.  I want to encourage you, my friends, to enjoy where you are in your life right now!  Take inventory of what is good in your life right now and be grateful to God for the good things He has given to you!  No matter what may be wrong in your life, enjoy the gift of life itself, and focus on what is right.  The years pass by too quickly and before long, I’ll be celebrating my 30th High School reunion.  Life is too short to focus only on the next stage that awaits us.  Let’s try to slow down and enjoy the here and now.  Let’s find JOY in the journey
